Alphabeat’s new song inspired by Swedish lesbians
‘Boyfriend’, the new song by Gaypop favourites Alphabeat, was probably inspired by Swedish lesbian film ‘Show Me Love’.
In an interview with Digital Spy, the band said the song was about loving a partner, regardless of what other people thought.
“It’s actually inspired by a Swedish film about two lesbians,” said singer Anders. “They’re teenagers and it’s a story about them discovering love and how they feel about other girls. In school, they get teased by the other kids and then they decide, ‘F**k everyone, we’re going to do this. We don’t care what you think’.”
“That’s what the song’s about – not caring what other people think about your boyfriend or girlfriend.”
Although the band don’t mention the film’s name, we’re guessing they’re referring to the excellent 1998 film ‘Show Me Love‘ (Swedish name: Fucking Åmål).
