IconBlair criticises ‘out of touch’ Pope

Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair has criticised the Pope’s attitude towards homosexuality and argued that the Pope’s views are not shared by most Catholics.

In an interview with gay magazine Attitude, Blair said the Vatican should rethink its “entrenched” attitude.

“If you went and asked the [ordinary Catholic] congregation, I think you’d find that their faith is not to be found in those types of entrenched attitudes,” said Blair.

“Actually, we need an attitude of mind where rethinking and the concept of evolving attitudes becomes part of the discipline with which you approach your religious faith.”

In December 2008 Pope Benedict XVI announced that homosexuality was as great a threat to the human race as the destruction of the rainforests.

Tony Blair converted to Catholicism in 2007.
