60-second interview with new lesbian magazine crAve

crAve magazine September 9th, 2008

After 14 years of just one lesbian/bisexual magazine on British newsstands, there’s finally an alternative to Diva. We spoke to Sam Eastwood, Editor of new magazine crAve, to find out what to expect from her new magazine…

Why the name? (and why the capital A?)
Crave means a need or desire, and from talking to gay women we feel that there is a strong need for a magazine which is both entertaining and informative.

The capital A derives from us wanting to create a distinctive brand which will be easily recognisable.

Who will the magazine appeal to?
Gay and bisexual women who don’t want to be preached to.

What makes crAve different from other lesbian/bisexual magazines?

We like to think we have a sense of humour, which helps create out own individual style and personality. We provide a good variation of articles which are well designed and easy to read.

Our aim is to cover a wide range of relationship issues and celebrity interviews (and not all with gay women) but that explore peoples lives and personalities.

We also want to try and avoid being filled with adult ads, which is why we were delighted to feature M&S in issue one. As well as all this we feature quirky one off articles, which are guaranteed to entertain you.

What kind of topics will crAve cover, and what won’t it deal with?

crAve will cover everything from celebrity interviews to relationship articles, sport, food and drink and reviews. We aim to provide a balanced view on a range of subjects and are open and happy to cover any subject whilst allowing our readers to form their own thoughts and opinions.

If the magazine was a celebrity, who would it be, and why?

Double gold medal winner Rebecca Adlington - We’re not afraid to jump in at the deep end, we’ve got personality and look great in a swimming costume!

Give us 3 reasons to buy issue 1:

  • 3 ways to get a thrill (Page 13)
  • Find out what Jodie Foster does after a shower (Page 14 interview)
  • Find out Sophie Ward’s favourite body part belonging to someone else (Page 38 interview)

Can you give us a sneak peak at what will be in issue 2?

  • Emily Blunt talks exclusively to crAve
  • Crush to Crushed - we explore how to handle falling for a straight woman
  • Keira Knightley chat about her latest movie
  • 20 ways to improve your life
  • How to throw the world’s best party

And finally… how often does the magazine come out, how much does it cost, and where can we buy it?
crAve is a bi-monthly publication, retailing at £3.25 for a single issue, and can be purchased directly through us at www.cravewomen.co.uk or through Borders stores nationwide.
