Spanish gay magazine Zero goes bust

Spain’s leading gay magazine has been the latest LGBT publication to become a victim of the global recession.

Zero magazine editor Miguel Ángel López has confirmed that the magazine’s 120th edition, due in December 2009, will be its last.

The magazine, which began 12 years ago, fell into financial difficulty after advertising revenue fell by 60%. The business filed for bankruptcy on 6 November 2009.

Earlier this month several US LGBT publications were forced to close when media company Windows media went bust after racking up debts of $15 million.

In the UK, the summer of 2009 saw lesbian magazine CrAve close and weekly newspaper Pink Paper move online in an effort to stay solvent.
