‘Polish group not homophobic’ – David Cameron
October 8th, 2009
Conservative Party leader David Cameron says he doesn’t believe the party’s new partners in Europe are homophobic.
Speaking on Sky News, Cameron said “I don’t believe the Law and Justice Party are homophobic.
“They have said very clearly that they believe in equal rights and they believe in equal rights for people of different sexualities - they are very clear about that,” added Cameron.
“Poland is a Catholic country. Most of the parties in Poland do take a stance like that on issues like gay marriage.
“I don’t happen to agree with them but they’re not a homophobic party.”
Cameron’s statement is a response to an open letter signed by several celebrities and politicians raising concerns over the Conservative’s links with the Law and Justice Party, which is against gay marriage and gay adoption.
Polish Law and Justice Party MP Michal Kaminski, who attended the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester this week, also called gay people “fags” in a televised interview in 2000.
Stonewall chief Ben Summerskill pulled out of a high-profile Conservative gay pride event on Monday, the same day the homophobia issue was raised in the open letter and protests were held by LGBT activists.
However, following accusations that his decision was influenced by the Labour Party, Summerskill has since denied that he deliberately boycotting the event, insisting instead that he had merely decided to go to bed at a “normal hour” on Tuesday night.
Openly gay Conservative MP Nick Herbert yesterday accused Summerskill of being unduly influenced by Labour’s “contemptible” effort to use the gay rights issue as a “political pawn”.
Herbert also accused Labour of seeking to create “clear pink water” between the two parties by “misrepresenting the views” of the Conservative’s new European allies.
Herbert added that the Conservatives should by judged by its own values, not those of its partners, and that the Conservative Party had transformed its attitude to gay rights in recent years.

Soryy, pal (I mean Cameron), I’m from Poland and I know extremely well what Law and Justice Party mean. They may not be the most homophobic political power in our extra-homophobic political scene, but they hate everything gay, hoping to force us to hide back in our closets and/or turn invisible (the concentration camps idea is not theirs, though, it was suggested by a slightly more extremist group). With a bunch of hidden homosexuals in their back (and front) office, they could at least have the dignity not to lie so openly :/
Uschi ∼ October 8th, 2009 12:58 pmTotally lying through his teeth. I hope they don’t get into government. Labour might be making a mess of things, but they are the better of two evils!!
