Anna Paquin announces “I’m a bisexual and I give a damn”

Anna Paquin, the Oscar-winning child star of The Pianist and currently on TV screens in True Blood, announced yesterday: “I’m a bisexual and I give a damn.”
The 27-year-old, engaged to True Blood co-star Stephen Moyer, made the revelation in public service announcement for the US-based True Colors Fund, a gay rights advocacy group. The Fund’s latest campaign, “Give a Damn”, features videos of celebrities speaking out for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality.
The video in which Paquin appears also features Elton John, Whoopi Goldberg, Cynthia Nixon, and Kelly Osbourne, among others. As news of Paquin’s disclosure spread over the internet, the “Give a Damn” website was overwhelmed with traffic and caused to crash. The site is now back up and running.
The actress has not previously discussed her sexuality with the media and it appears that organisers were not expecting the revelation. The campaign has been broadly supported by straight-defining celebrities, led by True Colors founder Cindi Lauper, as well as gay stars. It is not yet clear whether the videos will air on television as well as online.
