Bar raided on anniversary of Stonewall riots

Stonewall July 1st, 2009

A gay bar in Texas was raided by police on the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, the beginning of the gay rights movement.

More than 100 protestors demanded an investigation into the incident at the Tarrant County Courthouse.

Todd Camp, a customer at the bar, said “It’s sad that in this day and age, on the anniversary of one of the most important days in gay rights history that the Fort Worth and State police would choose to attack gays in such an aggressive and unjustified manner.”

The police claimed that the raid was one of many in the area that were carried out that night as part of ‘alcohol beverage code inspections.’
