BNP says it is no longer ‘drastically anti-gay’

BNP's Nick Griffin March 26th, 2010 by Chloe.Setter

The leader of the British National Party (BNP) said he has made the party more gay friendly, despite claiming that he finds gays “creepy”.

In an interview with Tory activist and blogger Iain Dale for Total Politics magazine, Nick Griffin said, although his party used to be “drastically” anti-homosexuality, it has now adopted a “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, Pink News reports.

He told Dale that the BNP had gay members and “people know who they are”.

“To say that people are condemned to hell because of the way that nature or God made them, that’s actually grotesque… But still I think the homosexuality thing is overplayed,” he added.

Griffin, an MEP for the North West of England, went on to explain that he believed marriage was “only between a man and a woman, and ideally with kids” and confirmed that his party would ban civil partnerships if they ever came to power.
