Civil partnership for Labour MP

The UK’s only openly lesbian MP is to have a civil partnership ceremony with her partner. Treasury minister and Labour MP Angela Eagle will tie the knot with Maria Exall, a BT engineer.

The news was publicly announced by Harriet Harman, the deputy Labour leader, while speaking about equality issues at the TUC congress platform.

Ms Eagle admitted she was “taken by surprise” when she heard her plans announced to conference delegates by Ms Harman.
