Connecticut lifts gay marriage ban

Connecticut October 13th, 2008

Connecticut has become the third US state to legalise gay marriage.

Last week The Connecticut Supreme Court overturned a state ban on same-sex marriage, ruling that such a ban “discriminates on the basis of sexual orientation.”

Same-sex couples from other states can get married in Connecticut, but recognition of the marriages in their home states will depend on the laws in those states.

California and Connecticut’s neighbouring state Massachusetts are the other two US states to have legalised gay marriage.
