‘Decriminalise homosexuality’ - France to UN

UN flag September 4th, 2008

The EU ambassador to the United Nations has called on all countries to decriminalise homosexuality.

Speaking from a conference for non-government organisations in Paris yesterday, French and EU ambassador Rama Yade said she will be proposing a draft declaration in December to universally decriminalise homosexuality.

France currently represents all European Union states as holder of the six-month rotational EU presidency. The draft legislation will require a vote from member nations.

Homosexuality is currently illegal in 90 countries, and carries the death penalty in six countries.

  • Well done that girl!! I think that if this draft goes ahead it will be the beginning of something rather great… abolishing the death penalty in those six states would be a brilliant start by the sounds of it.
