An investigation has found that there are no grounds for claims that Canterbury is unsupportive of the LGBT community.

Canterbury Pride claimed that the city fails to support and promote LGBT culture. The group also highlighted that Canterbury is one of the only cities in the UK without a gay bar.

The local council said “we have always refuted suggestions the council doesn’t engage with the LGBT community.”

The council’s chief executive Colin Carmichael said “We hope that the Ombudsman’s conclusion draws a line under this particular episode,”

We will, however, continue to work closely with the local LGBT community in identifying particular needs and concerns and offering help whenever possible.”
