Lesbian networking site launch raises cash for charity

The launch of an online networking site for professional lesbian women raised nearly £700 for charity.
Mint Network donated 25% of its ticket sales for last month’s launch night to gay rights charity Stonewall and also held a raffle to raise cash.
Organiser and co-founder Nicola Chubb said: “At Mint, we are great supporters of Stonewall and the work they do.
“We managed to get some great prizes from our sponsors and raffled them for Stonewall. We raised £690 from the evening.”
Michaela Greene, Stonewall’s deputy director of fundraising, attended the launch party, which was held at Willa’s in Mayfair on 18 February.
She said: “Stonewall were delighted to be involved in the launch of Mint online.
“The event raised more than £600 to support Stonewall’s work and enables us to continue our ongoing campaigning for lesbian, gay and bisexual people at home, at work and at school.
“Without support from events such as the Mint launch or the support from our individual supporters, our work wouldn’t be possible.”
According to Chubb, the launch night was a real success. She said: “The overall feedback was how friendly the evening was and how our members met other members at ease.
“We had 200 women attend the launch party and the feedback was amazing.”
The next Mint social event will be held next week (11 March) at Soho House, London, and will feature guest speaker Nazmia Jamel, the programmer for the London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival.
Tickets are limited but are available from the Mint Network’s site.
