No lesbian side-boobs for WHSmith
February 29th, 2008Lesbian magazine Diva has been forced to censor the cover of its ’super sexy issue’ following complaints from WHSmith.
The retailer, which regularly displays naked faux-lesbian embraces on the covers of mens’ magazines such as Nuts, Zoo and FHM, told Diva that the cover must be changed or the magazine ‘bagged’, otherwise it would not sell the magazine.

The original Diva image was meant as a homage to the 1981 Rolling Stone cover of Yoko Ono and John Lennon, photographed by Annie Leibovitz.
A spokesman for Millivres Prowler Group, owners of Diva, said: “At the eleventh hour we received notification that the magazine couldn’t run with the iconic cover. “Unfortunately, we were forced to censor the cover because one major retailer objected to it. They didn’t explain why.”

What do you think? Is the original cover offensive? Is WHSmith being homophobic? Was Diva wrong to give in to pressure?

Diva are wimps and WH Smith are hypocritical prudes.
Geraldine ∼ March 8th, 2008 11:00 amyeah and diva gets loads of publicity out of it too hmmm how convenient……..
Helen Butler ∼ March 10th, 2008 2:27 pmDon’t WH Smith stock rags such as ‘Nuts’ and ‘Zoo’ anyway?! Which I’m sure have the odd side boob on the cover… why is that more acceptable??
Laura ∼ March 10th, 2008 4:20 pmBeing homophobic? dont make me laugh, that is just gay people being paranoid. But people who get offended by this stuff are absolutely pathetic!! God I hate snobs! xx
Laura ∼ March 11th, 2008 12:18 ami disagree with laura, i don’t think it is paranoia - that image would not have been edited from the front of fhm, i’m almost positive.
then again, when i worked in smiths, it look a lot of expalination to try and pursuede my boss that diva shouldn’t be stocked in ‘men’s lifestyle’…
