Election map November 5th, 2008

Many LGBT people in the USA will be celebrating last night’s victory for Barack Obama in the Presidential elections, but the victory has been soured for some by anti-gay voting in Arizona, Arkansas and California.

Voters in Arizona have approved a state constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. In Arkansas, voters approved a measure banning unmarried couples from serving as adoptive or foster parents.

In California, early poll results have showed support for Prop 8, which seeks to overturn recent legislation which allows gay people to legally marry. With 63% of the state’s voting district results in, the measure was leading by 52.4% to 47.6%. Gay marriage has been legal in California for five months.
