Queen endorses homophobic church group

The Queen has sent “supportive” letters to an anti-gay faction of the Church of England.
Her Majesty wrote twice to the Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans (FCA), offering her support, expressing her understanding and wishing them success.
“We found the letters very supportive,” a leading evangelical told the Telegraph.
The FCA is a new coalition of evangelical and Anglo-Catholic parishes which opposes homosexuality. The coalition released a statement last Sunday – the same weekend as Pride London – urging gay people to “repent and be changed”.
Gay rights groups are dismayed at the Queen’s show of support for the FCA.
“The Queen has made a serious error of judgement,” said human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell.
“Her letter of support for the breakaway anti-gay faction of the Church of England is collusion with prejudice.
“She has insulted lesbian and gay people and breached royal protocol by embroiling herself in an issue of religious and political controversy.”
A spokesperson for the Palace played down the significance of the letters, claiming that Queen was not endorsing the FCA and pointing out that she corresponds with a number of organisations.

silly silly silly. why would she do that?! tatchell seems to have a lot to say about everything lately.
laura ∼ July 7th, 2009 2:31 pmHmmm, can’t wondering what would happen to a gay member of the Royal family, should they exist. I wouldn’t like to be in their shoes.
Anastasia ∼ July 9th, 2009 1:23 amHistorically, Edward II and (I think) Richard II are thought to have engaged in same-sex relationships, although to call them gay would be anachronistic.
