Sweden gets first lesbian bishop
November 10th, 2009
Sweden’s first openly lesbian bishop has been ordained after narrowly winning the election in May.
Eva Brunne, who is in a registered partnership and has a three year old child, described her appointment as “setting an example” by looking at her qualifications rather than her sexual orientation.
However, Anglican bishops from England and Northern Ireland refused to attend, on the grounds that her ordination was incompatible with their beliefs.
The ordination took place on Sunday, two weeks after church leaders voted to allow same-sex marriages the option for a church ceremony.

And this coming Sunday the decision re same sex marriage will be celebrated with a rainbow mass in the Sofia church in Stockholm. The event starts at 4 pm, the mass is at 6 pm and there will be coffee and wedding cakes.
I’m not a Christian but will go anyhow to celebrate this step towards equality.
