The President of the USA is to hold a reception for LGBT people at the White House to mark the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall riots.

The event, which take place this Monday 29th June, will be attended by prominent LGBT leaders.

“Next Monday’s event is a chance for the White House to recognize the accomplishments of LGBT Americans. Invited guests include families, volunteers and activists, and community leaders,” said White House spokesman, Shin Inouye.

“This event was long planned as a way to applaud these individuals during Pride month.”

Some speculate the event was a reaction to recent criticisms that President Obama is failing to do enough for the LGBT community.
