Cambridge Pride cancelled due to lack of funds

Pink Festival July 6th, 2009

Cambridge’s Pink Festival, planned for 22 August 2009, has been called off due to financial difficulties.

Organisers are blaming the economy for the problems in raising the necessary sponsorship for the free event.

“It is with a heavy heart we have had to make the decision to postpone Pink Festival 2009,” said organiser Lara Jaffey.

“However, we look forward to taking this opportunity to strengthen ourselves, relationships with our partners and we look to the future of the festival with hope and positivity. Thank you to everyone who has dedicated their time and energy to the event this year and in the past.”

Pink Festival is the only diversity festival in the East of England. Over 12,000 people attended the event in 2008.

Organisers say they are planning fundraising events between now and next summer to guarantee the future of the 2010 Pink Festival.
