Chaz Bono to officially change name and gender

Cher’s son Chaz Bono has asked a Los Angeles judge to formally change his name and gender.
The gay rights campaigner was born Chastity Sun Bono and lived as a lesbian for 20 years. He began his transition in March 2009 and now wants to be known as Chaz Salvatore Bono, according to a petition filed earlier this week.
In November, the 41-year-old spoke about his decision to have sex change surgery.
“At this point, nothing scares me. I’m living the life I always wanted to live and it’s amazing,” he said.
“Life is short and life is precious. This is who I am. I need to finally be who I am.”
Cher has promised to support her child through this “difficult journey”.
“Although I may not understand, I will strive to be understanding,” she said of his decision.
A hearing has been scheduled for 6th May in Santa Monica, California.
