Child of lesbian couple refused place at school

School officials in Texas have barred Olivia Harrison from attending a local school because her parents are lesbians.
She had been accepted after administrators had assumed her mother Tracy was a man, but when Tracy and Jill arrived at an information evening, they were told that Olivia’s admission would be rescinded. They later issued the following statement:
“It is clear… that enrolling the child in a traditional Christian school, such as St. Vincent’s School, would not foster her own personal values at home. And it might undermine the moral instruction of our clergy and teachers in the minds of our schools students and parents.”
Although the school claims they would have made a similar judgement about a child of unmarried parents, the couple, who were married in Canada in 2006, remain sceptical.
In their statement, the staff of St Vincent’s said that the were praying for Olivia “and her mother.”
