January 9th, 2010 by Chloe.Setter
Manchester Pride organisers have opened up the bidding for community event grants for this year’s festival.
The event, which celebrates its 20th birthday this year, is offering funding of up to £500 from a total of £5,000 – meaning it can aid a minimum of 10 projects.
Organisers are looking for a wide range of events to help fund, from topics such as arts, cultural activities, campaigning, political debate, health and fitness, discrimination and HIV issues.
Last year, it successfully funded 16 community events over 10 days, including LGBT photography exhibitions, workshops, theatre, art and debates.
Jackie Crozier, festival manager of Manchester Pride, said “Following last year’s success we are absolutely delighted to continue the grant scheme in 2010. We’re always looking for new and innovative projects and this year we hope to see a variety of events from arts and cultural activities to campaigning and political debate. It’s also great to get the chance to support individuals and organisations and help ensure their event is a success.”
Funding is available for local LGBT/HIV organisations, individuals wishing to organise an event, community and voluntary sector groups, as well as registered charities.
The activities are due to take place at the festival’s Fringe event, which runs from 20-26 August, ahead of the Big Weekend (27-30 August).
Applications are now being accepted with the deadline for submissions being Monday 8 March.
