New women’s archive for Scotland
June 24th, 2008
Scotland is to have its first women’s archive. A £410,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund will fund the scheme, which will include suffragette photos, family planning leaflets and a rare edition of the 1920s classic ‘Well of Loneliness‘, one of the first lesbian novels.
The money will be used to catalogue 30,000 documents and publication which represent 100 years of women’s social history in Scotland. The archive will be housed at Glasgow’s Mitchell Library. The grant will also help to fund an archivist who will catalogue the collection and train volunteers to preserve it for future generations.
