Dana International set for Eurovision comeback
Former Eurovision Song Contest winner Dana International will return to the competition this year after being chosen to represent Israel for the second time.
The Israel Broadcasting Authority revealed that over 200,000 people tuned in to see her win the nomination. The trans pop star will perform a new track, entitled “Ding Dong”.
Dana told reporters that she was proud to be representing her country once again. “I love everyone and I’m really happy to have been given another opportunity to bring the Eurovision back to Israel,” she said.
Conservatives and Orthodox Jews attempted to block the singer from performing at Eurovision in 1998, saying that they were ashamed to have a trans woman representing their country. However, Dana’s performance of “Diva” famously led her to victory that year. The song also reached number 11 in the UK charts.
This year’s Eurovision Song Contest final will be held in Germany during May.
