Come and have some fun on our women's night - from 8pm till late
Manchester Youth Service has been restructured, and the new Head of Service has not indicated the presence of LGYM in this new model. Therefore LGYM is at real risk of being closed.
The group has run for over 30 years and has provided crucial support, education, training, socialising and a refuge for thousands of young LGBT people. The youth work has won various awards nationally for their anti-bullying work, including the 2009 Children and Young People Now award, and the Diana Award. And now the Youth Service are indicating this service is no longer needed.
No one will comment on what is going to happen, but the evidence is in the restructure. Manchester Youth Service have not yet indicated when and if they are going to meet the young people of LGYM and explain why the group is being closed.
Please come along, invite your friends, family, allies and anyone who thinks that LGYM deserves to remain open!
Workshops exploring drama, story and poetry are led by Ellen Galford (lesbian novelist) and Sophia Walker (award-winning slam poet) and are amongst a number of events at the Centre. Lesbian-targeted events throughout Pride and History Month alike are often literature-led but Walker especially should provide a more participatory and cutting-edge take on things. Booking is essential.

Lesbilicious Comedy is back after the winter break! It’s the same simple formula: comedy from some of the UK’s funniest women, for lesbian/bisexual women and their friends.
Zoe Lyons
“Such densely packed and consistently funny material that only the most stolid will leave it without a slight ache in the cheeks” – Chortle
“A raucous hour of outrageous jokes” – Sunday Times
Zoe stole the show at the very first Lesbilicious Comedy in February 2009, and we’ve finally given into demands to have her on again. Zoe’s a 100mph comic genius with swagger and charm in equal measures.
If you haven’t seen Zoe on Mock the Week you might have heard her on Radio 4, Radio 5 or Radio 2 with Jo Caulfield, Christian O’Connell and Clive Anderson respectively. In 2006 she won the Nivea Funny Women award and Channel 4’s ‘So You Think You’re Funny’ award, in 2007 she won the If.comedy Best Newcomer award, and in 2008 she was declared officially the funniest person at the Edinburgh Festival when she won the Dave TV Funniest Joke of the Fringe 2008 award.
Zoe also managed to turn up on the Independent newspaper’s Pink List 2009 as the “81st most powerful gay person in the country”, because, rather confusingly, they think she “fits the mould of the gay comic whose act isn’t just about being gay.” They also say she’s going to be the next breakthrough comedian on TV, which makes a bit more sense.
Also appearing at Lesbilicious Comedy:
“Potent mix of spot-on, slightly surreal social commentary and instantly hilarious songs” – Spotlight Comedy
“Wonderfully eccentric one-liners” – Time Out
“More than compere, more than host, with a natural gift of the gab she’s quick off the mark and doesn’t miss a trick” – Gingerbeer
Lesbilicious Comedy: Thursday 25 March 2010
Doors open 7pm, show starts at 8:30pm
Tickets: £13 (early bird discount: £10 if booked before Monday 8 March)
Hyena Comedy Club, Leazes Lane, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 4PF
For tickets, call the Hyena on 0191 232 6030 on buy online from the Hyena website.

Press Quotes:
"Made everyone laugh with her diatribes against short girls, Richard and Judy and poorly written text messages."- The Daily Telegraph
“Strong…popular with anyone who ever left the house with their knicker label poking out of their jeans” - Manchester City Life.
"Her end rhymes alone are laugh out loud funny" - Poetry News
Support acts:
Naomi Paul – “Local favourite” - Kitchen Garden Café, Birmingham
Louise Stokes and Neetu Sanghera as Curry and Chips –
"That was absolutely unique. I laughed so much my face hurts" – Mrs. Stokes, Louise’s Mother
Melanie Smart
Quiz
MC: Sharon Race - “On form...fends off hecklers with great style.” - Long Live Comedy
Doors open at 8pm. Show from 8.30pm.
Following on from the success of 2009's show, Laughing Cows is back this time for a two-night run. Hosting the night again will be Laughing Cows resident MC, Maureen Younger, who will be joined this time by fellow UK comics, Shelagh Martin and Julie Jepson.
Hackney Empire Finalist and Amused Moose Starlet, Maureen Younger is currently the resident MC for Laughing Cows in London, Birmingham and Berlin; and is a regular contributor on BBC Radio. Maureen regularly performs in Berlin in both English and German. "engaging and funny" (Three Weeks)
Julie Jepson burst onto the comedy circuit when she reached the final of the Funny Women Comedy Awards in 2005 on only her 3rd gig. She regularly performs in comedy clubs up and down the UK. ""Intelligent stand-up that is instantly engaging. Truly fabulous" (www.bbc.co.uk)
Shelagh Martin regularly plays clubs in London and around the UK, and in 1997 won the “Spirit of the Fringe Award” for Stand-up at the Edinburgh Festival, with her show “Shelagh Martin Expands”. She has also performed in America. Shelagh has done various TV, including “The World Stands up” (Paramount / Comedy Central) and Comedy Nation (BBC 2).
