L Word actress and screenwriter Guinevere Turner was among a host of stars that completed Stonewall’s seventh annual Brighton Equality Walk last weekend.
Turner, along with Coronation Street actor Charlie Condou and Brighton chief superintendent Graham Bartlett, joined film director Rikki Beadle-Blair for the 10k walk, despite the day (2 May) being plagued by bad weather.
Walkers followed the route set by the city’s lesbian and gay sports group BLAGSS, along the seafront, through the gay village, finishing at the R-Bar for a post-walk party.
An estimated £55,000 has been raised by the 350 people who completed the walk, which was sponsored by American Express.
“Money raised by our supporters at this walk will enable us to develop materials that primary schools can use when teaching and celebrating different families,” said Stonewall deputy chief executive Laura Doughty. “Stonewall’s work can make an even greater difference to the lives of young lesbian, gay and bisexual people around the country, thanks to the success of this year’s Equality Walk.”
