Icon‘Government must stop sending gay people to their deaths’ – Lib Dems

On the second day of their autumn conference, the Liberal Democrats have called for the Government to stop deporting gay and lesbian people to countries where they face persecution.

In June 2008, Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said that LGBT asylum seekers could be safely deported to Iran as long as they live ‘discreetly’.

According to Iranian human rights campaigners, more than 4,000 gay men and lesbians have been executed in Iran since 1979.

The full text of the conference motion can be found on the Liberal Democrats website.
