Egg-sharing: the ideal fertility treatment for lesbians?

The London Women’s Clinic (LWC) has two fertility seminars planned in June for women interested in receiving free IVF treatment through an ‘egg-sharing’ scheme.

Egg-sharing was introduced to the UK by the medical team now leading the London Women’s Clinic. The scheme enables selected patients to receive free IVF treatment in return for donating a proportion of their eggs to matched recipients.

A recent survey of more than 200 women undergoing fertility treatment at the London Women’s Clinic found that the live birth rate for women who egg-shared was 64%, almost matching the 66% rate for women using routine IVF. The high success rates reflect the fact that lesbians are not usually infertile, and are having IVF as they have no male partner.

The LWC believes that gay women make great candidates for the egg-sharing programme and can achieve just as much success by donating some of their eggs as they can in routine IVF, without the high price tag.

LWC seminars for women interested in egg-sharing and donor insemination:

Saturday 6th June

11am “Egg-sharing” for women interested in receiving free IVF treatment
2pm “Inseminar” for women considering donor insemination

Saturday 27th June
