London Women’s Clinic is Britain’s biggest sperm bank

The London Women’s Clinic (LWC) is now Britain’s biggest sperm bank, with more than 12,000 vials of donor sperm held in deep-freeze storage.

In April 2005 the Human Fertilisation Act was amended so that children born as a result of sperm donations had the right to access information about their biological father at the age of 18. Fears that removing sperm donor’s rights to anonymity would lead to a severe shortage of donors have proved unfounded, with a six per cent rise in the number of men registering as donors in the UK since 2005.

“We are now one of the few UK clinics able to provide donor sperm with little or no waiting list,” commented Dr Hemlata Thackare, consultant IVF specialist. “The LWC clinics have great experience in offering donor insemination to single women and same sex couples.”

Official UK figures reveal that almost 3000 women had insemination treatment with donor sperm in 2004, with 750 babies born as a result.

LWC is a sponsor of Lesbilicious.
