Newcastle University calling for gay scene research volunteers
November 5th, 2009
Researchers from Newcastle University are looking for people based in the North East of England to talk about their experiences of the local gay scene.
Dr Mark Casey and Dr Yvette Taylor from the Sociology department are looking at what commercial and non-commercial lesbian and gay spaces exist in the North East, and how they are changing.
“We propose that lesbian and gay (L&G) social spaces in Northumberland, Newcastle and Middlesbrough are enduring physical and cultural transformations,” say the researchers.
“This research wishes to address how commercial L&G sites have become central for cities within their regeneration and are used to facilitate claims to regional, national and/or global city status. We also wish to explore L&G sites and spaces that exist outside of the cities and towns of the North East.”
The researchers are looking for people to talk for approximately one hour about their experiences, in a location to suit the interviewee. Interviews will be recorded but full anonymity is guaranteed.
