French tennis player Amelie Mauresmo has announced that she is retiring from the sport.

“I’ve come here to announce the end of my career. I made this decision after careful consideration,” said an emotional Mauresmo in a Paris news conference.

30-year old Mauresmo won 25 singles titles and $15million in prize money during her career. She also won two Grand Slam titles: Wimbledon and the Australian Open, both in 2006.

Mauresmo came out as a lesbian publicly in 1999, aged 19. She faced homophobia from several other players, including Martina Hingis who famously called her “half a man”.
