IconHeather Peace completes Stonewall’s equality walk

Lip Service favourite Heather Peace helped to raise £50,000 for the gay rights charity Stonewall at the weekend.

The singer and songwriter, (pictured above) who played the role of Detective Sergeant Sam Murray in the hit BBC3 series Lip Service, took part in the lesbian, gay and bisexual equality charity’s annual Brighton Equality Walk on Sunday in order to raise funds for the charity’s education campaign.

A record 504 walkers took part in the 10km event, including the Coronation Street actor Charlie Condou (pictured, above right) and the deputy chief constable of Sussex Police, Giles York.

It was the eighth such walk organised by Stonewall, and the route, which was set by the Brighton Lesbian & Gay Sports Society, took in the sea front, the gay village and finished at the city’s Honey club.

The charity’s deputy chief executive Laura Doughty said: “Stonewall’s work can make an even greater difference to the lives of all young people around the country, thanks to the success of this year’s Equality Walk.

“Money raised by our supporters at this walk will enable us to send an essential teacher training pack to every primary school in Britain, which will help them make their classes inclusive for children from all families.”
