Lip Service star Heather Peace will return to UK screens in September as a teacher in BBC1 school drama Waterloo Road.

“I’m very excited about joining the cast of Waterloo Road,” she said. “It’s a fantastic show with really strong storylines so I can’t wait to get started.”

“Plus, I get to work with the brilliant Jason Done again, who I was in Macbeth with a long time ago, so that’s a massive bonus.”

The role will result in Heather being the only out lesbian actress in a current mainstream UK television series. It is not known whether or not she will be playing a gay character.

Waterloo Road is an award-winning series chronicling the lives of teachers and students at a troubled comprehensive school. A number of episodes have depicted pupils coming out as gay or trans.

The first episode of the new series will be screened on BBC1 on Wednesday 14th September, at 7:30pm.
