IconLesbian couple ejected from baseball stadium for kissing

A lesbian couple are considering legal action after being forced to leave a baseball game in Baltimore, Maryland for “making a scene”.

Mary Kate Morries and Nicole Marchetto were watching the Baltimore Ravens play the Cleveland Browns at the M&T Bank Stadium on 26 September. While waiting for their half-time drinks and snacks at a concession stand, a security guard told them to stop kissing.

Speaking to the Washington Blade, Marchetto said the couple continued because “the kissing was heartfelt and decent in the real sense and was not any different from what numerous law-abiding straight couples were doing all around us”.

The security guard then asked to see their driver’s licences, before telling them to leave the stadium. When challenged for a reason, he allegedly accused the couple of stealing a plastic cup – which they had used to hold their ketchup – and then of stealing their beers. A police officer is said to have intervened and pointed out that they had receipts for their items.

Nonetheless, the couple were escorted from the premises by three officers. The Maryland Stadium Authority have stated that the ejection was a result of “unauthorised removal of inventory” witnessed by an employee. A spokesperson for The Ravens said that they are satisfied with actions taken.

Morris and Marchetto contend that their kissing motivated their removal, however, and are now considering taking the issue to court.
