IconSarah Waters on Booker prize longlist

Sarah Waters’ newest novel The Little Strangeris amongst the 13 books chosen for the 2009 Man Booker prize longlist.

Waters’ book is the bookies second favourite to win the prize, after JM Coetzee’s Summertime.

The Man Booker prize is an annual content for the year’s best English language novel by an author from the UK, Ireland or the Commonwealth. The winner receives £50,000.

Waters has been shortlisted for the prize twice before, with novels Fingersmith and The Night Watch.

132 books were considered for this year’s longlist. The shortlist will be announced on 8 September 2009, and the winner will be announced on 6 October 2009.

To celebrate the longlist, a Man Booker prize enthusiast appear on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square on 11 August to give readings from all 13 longlisted titles. Copies of the books will also be given out.
