Navratilova’s ex threatening to reveal secrets

Martina Navratilova April 15th, 2009

Martina Navratilova’s ex-partner Toni Layton is threatening to reveal embarrassing secrets of the tennis champion unless she receives a big cash pay-off, according to the New York Times.

“There are a lot of skeletons in Martina’s closet. It is more like a storage facility full of them, and I know them all,” said Layton.

Navratilova and Layton split up in 2008 after eight years together, and Layton claims that she helped to nurture and enrich Navratilova’s career.

“Layton was offered a measly, flat $200,000 for eight long years of 24/7 work and support for the enrichment and betterment of [a] multimillionaire athlete,” said Layton’s press agent Gary Smith. “The offer was an insult. Navratilova is using Florida’s failure to recognize gay marriage to her advantage.”

Layton’s lawyer, Raymond Rafool, says he expects his client to be branded as a ‘greedy gold digger’, but he believes the settlement is not about the money. “We are standing up for gay rights in this case,” said Rafool. “Toni has the right to obtain a fair settlement the same as if she were the spouse in a traditional marriage.”

  • You called it a New York Times article, but then linked to a NY Post article. There’s a world of difference between the two newspapers.
