Sex toy review: the Mystic Tickler
August 12th, 2010
The company behind the Mystic Tickler has an ad campaign that asks ‘Which Tickler Are You?’ writes Vivien Grey. Apparently if you choose the Mystic, my latest accessory in having orgasms I then document online, it implies that you are both strange and exciting. I’m not entirely sure that I want to be profiled based on my preferred way of getting off, but I’ll take the compliment where I can get it.
On a purely tactile level, the Mystic Tickler may be the nicest toy I’ve ever used. Made of blue silicone, it feels almost silky without being slippery. More of an aperitif than a main course, the Tickler is hampered by only having one – not terribly strong - speed, which is a rarity in vibes these days. Then again, I’m the kind of girl who likes to turn the dial all the way up, so maybe I’m not the target demographic. Tickler is a good name, since that’s all it really does. The vibrations are strongest in the body of the toy, and I found that the two prongs at the top worked better at stimulating my nipples than my clit. Whilst they’re pleasurable enough, though, they also look uncannily like alien antennae. I’m sure that’s a turn-on for some people, but I’m not one of them.
It does have its advantages – its distinctly unphallic shape will appeal to those of us who aren’t exactly connoisseurs of cock, and it makes an excellent inclusion in foreplay. It’s a vibrator for people who don’t like vibrators – it doesn’t dominate proceedings, and it does spice things up a little. It’s also very quiet, so if you want to use it solo, your flatmate/family/significant others won’t have a clue what you’re up to.
Overall, I don’t think I’m a Mystic Tickler, but I did have fun finding out. It’s a quirky little vibe that would suit a beginner or someone who prefers mixing toy use with manual labour, so to speak. It won’t be my go-to vibe when I need to get off ASAP, but I’ll certainly be using it in the future – provided my girlfriend gives it back…
