IconStonewall 2011 Workplace Equality Index preliminary results

Preliminary results of Stonewall’s 2011 Workplace Equality Index have been released. The full results are to be published on January 12th.

The Index lists the top 100 gay-friendly employers in Britain. This is the seventh year of the Index and a record number of 378 employers entered which is up from 352 entries in 2010 and 317 in 2009.

Across the 378 employers, more than 9,100 lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) staff responded to surveys, which form part of the Workplace Equality Index assessment.

The number of organisations in the top 100 that run organisation-wide LGB awareness campaigns also increased to 96 per cent in 2011 – a rise of 31 per cent since 2009.

David Shields, director of workplace programmes for Stonewall, said: “This year’s Workplace Equality Index profiles employers who are leading the way in sexual orientation equality best practice. These employers understand that people perform better when they can be themselves and are working with the index to create inclusive workplaces for lesbian, gay and bisexual staff.”
