Sue Perkins to host Stonewall Awards
TV presenter Sue Perkins has been unveiled as the host of the 2010 Stonewall Awards.
The gay rights charity’s fifth annual awards ceremony celebrates people who have had a positive impact on the lives of LGBTs in Britain.
Nominees for the prestigious Hero of the Year include presenter and sports journalist Clare Balding, who recently triumphed in her complaint about being called a ‘dyke’ by Sunday Times columnist AA Gill. Also nominated are X-Factor winner Joe McElderry and rugby star Gareth Thomas, both of whom recently came out.
Other awards will be judged by a panel that includes author Sarah Waters and MP Margot James, as well as Eileen Gallagher, the co-founder of Shed Productions, which produced ITV’s Bad Girls.
Laura Doughty, deputy chief executive of Stonewall, said: “Once again, the Stonewall Awards are shining a light on those who are making an important contribution to equality in Britain today – inspiring lesbian, gay and bisexual people to lead fulfilling lives at home, at school and at work.”
The ceremony will take place on 4 November at the V&A Museum in London. Tickets are available for £150+VAT. For tickets or more information, visit the Stonewall website.
