BFI London Lesbian & Gay Film Festival line-up revealed

The British Film Institute has unveiled the line-up for its 24th Lesbian & Gay Film Festival, which takes place from the 17-31 March at the BFI Southbank.
The festival, which will screen around 75 films and documentaries in total, will open with the world premiere of The Secret Diaries of Miss Anne Lister at the Odeon in the West End on 17 March.
The premiere, commissioned by BBC2, features former Shameless and Criminal Justice actress Maxine Peake in the role of Anne Lister – an early 19th century Yorkshire landowner and industrialist. The true story is based on coded journals that she kept throughout her life.
Other films that will be showcased include Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls, Leanne Pooley’s award-winning documentary about two folk-singing lesbian twins in New Zealand and I Killed My Mother, which is written, produced and directed by 20-year-old Xavier Dolan, who also stars in the film about teenage self-doubt.
Lesbian artist and filmmaker Barbara Hammer will feature in Hammer! Making Movies Out Of Life And Sex, which comprises of readings, archive images and rare footage.
Archives of women’s film organisation Cinenova will be shown in Short Films About Us: Lesbian Work at Cinenova and there will also be a retrospective celebrating the life of 1920s director Dorothy Arzner.
The two-week festival will also include club nights and other networking events.
