Cast announced for new BBC lesbian drama

BBC3 October 21st, 2009

The BBC has announced the cast for its new BBC3 lesbian drama, Lip Service, which is to be broadcast early next year.

Filming for the show has already begun. The three leads are being played by Laura Fraser (Florence Nightingale, Casanova, The Boys Are Back), Fiona Button (The Palace) and Ruta Gedmintas (The Tudors).

Harriet Braun, writer of Lip Service, says “all of these characters are very close to my heart, so to have found such a great cast who bring them to life so fantastically is very exciting.

“Based on my own experiences and those of my friends, I wanted to write a sexy, funny and irreverent drama that reflects what it is to be a young gay woman living in Britain today.”

Supporting roles in the series include Roxanne McKee (Hollyoaks), Heather Peace (The Chase, Blue Murder), James Anthony Pearson (New Town Killers) and Emun Elliott (Paradox, Blackwatch).

Head of drama at BBC Scotland, Anne Mensah, said “Lip Service promises to be an emotionally-charged and utterly enjoyable drama series.”

  • Wasn’t Personal Affairs on BBC3 too? I guess the lesbian storyline was the only one that interested people so they thought they’d go for another one without the ridiculous prancing around and Sex & the City antics of the other characters…

  • I think its great the BBC are investing some wonga in a show tailor made for lesbians rather than just dropping the odd dyke in a show to test the water. I think on the back of FarOut Tv this summer they have seen that it can work and are going for a similar show.
