Home and Away’s gay kiss censored
March 27th, 2009
A lesbian kiss on Home and Away will be censored when it airs in Australia next Tuesday (31 March 2009).
The Seven Network has panicked after complaints from conservative lobby groups in the media led to complaints from viewers.
Producers have cut a close-up scene of policewoman Charlie Buckton and deckhand Joey Collins kissing after dancing together on a boat.
Sources told The Australian newspaper that the original scene, played by actors Esther Anderson and Katie Bell, was no more intimate than any kiss shared by a heterosexual couple.
“It’s sad that in 2009 a kiss is considered more threatening to advertisers and family values than stalkers, serial killers and kidnappers, all of which sustain Summer Bay story-lines on a regular basis,” added Australian media commentator David Knox.
Are you serious?! Holy frakkin’ hell!! This is ridiculous.
Rhea ∼ March 28th, 2009 12:48 amThese parents don’t want H&A broadcasted on their TV is because their children might see the reality of same-sex relationships and make their own decisions. That’s what they mean by “impressionable,” that their children might form balanced view of the world instead of the bigoted ones they’re trying to promote.
Most parents are not against this, the only ones that are, think homosexuality is wrong. They dont want what’s best for their children, they want their bigotry to live on through them and I think it’s disgusting that by channel 7 censoring it they’re agreeing with them.
Stacey ∼ March 28th, 2009 5:33 amSome of the people tht r complaining, r just plain stupid. is there something wrong with them? or r they just plain homophobic? gaing gay is completely normal and i dont think that they understand tht!! get over it and grow up seriously!!!! im not gay btw i can just understand tht being gay is normal!!!
