Juno’s Ellen Page to star in lesbian drama

Juno actress Ellen Page is star in a film about a dying woman who struggles to secure pension benefits for her lesbian partner.
The 23-year-old will play mechanic Stacie Andree, whose police detective partner Laurel Hester is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Based on a real-life story, the film revolves around their battle to ensure Andree receives benefits after Hester’s death.
The film is based on Cynthia Wade’s documentary Freeheld, which won an Oscar for best short documentary in 2008.
It has been adapted into a screenplay by Ron Nyswaner, who also wrote the Oscar-winning film Philadelphia.
