“Lesbian Vampire Killers is feminist” – writer Matthew Horne
January 9th, 2009
Writer and star of new brit-flick Lesbian Vampire Killers Matthew Horne has hit back at criticism of the film from lesbian and feminist groups.
In an interview with the Guardian newspaper, Horne says the film is “far less gratuitous, both sexually and violently, than you could ever imagine from the title.”
The film should in fact appeal to feminists, believes Horne: “[The vampires are] very strong women! So you can read it as a feminist text as well.”
“You’ve got to take this film tongue in cheek. It’s a very camp affair. And nobody is saying that all lesbians are murderers.”
Horne’s next film role may not endear him to LGBT groups any more than Lesbian Vampire Killers. Horne will star in a British film called Seeing Iris as Scotty, a man who, in Horne’s words, “gets accidentally hypnotised into being a transvestite”.
Lesbian Vampire Killers is released on 20 March. Watch the trailer:

Bex ∼ January 31st, 2009 2:50 amI’m a little uncertain about how to feel about this movie.
Jenny ∼ March 3rd, 2009 12:05 amIt sounds like its gonna be full of cliches and stereotypes, with evil murderous lesbians. Yet it seems pretty light-hearted, not taken seriously.
I’m probably more pissed of about it because of the attention its got just by featuring “lesbian” in its title and advertising - but thats more a reflection on the media or society, rather than on this actual film.
I don’t think he did write it though, did he? According to Wikipedia it was written by Stewart Williams and Paul Hupfield. Both of whom ought to be ashamed of themselves, as should Horne and Corden…
Kez ∼ March 28th, 2009 6:00 pmI don’t think anyone’s offended because they think the movie is showing all lesbians to be killers, that’s really missing the point. Or that it’s politically incorrect or anything, really, everyone has their movies that they love in spite of it being offensive to someone somewhere.
It honestly sounds too dumb to be offensive. And boring. That’s what I’m offended by - it makes lesbian vampires sound boring!
