Not ‘looking very Shane today’: Kate Moennig

Kate Moennig August 4th, 2009

The first promo shots have been released of Three Rivers, a new hospital-based drama starring Kate Moennig.

Moennig, aka Shane in The L Word, plays a rather more heterosexual-looking doctor called Miranda Foster.

According to the drama’s producers, Dr Forster is ‘a surgeon with a rebellious streak and fiery temper who strives to live up to her deceased father’s excellent surgical reputation.’

Three Rivers will premiere in the USA on Sunday 4 October 2009. There are currently no plans to show the series outside of the USA.

  • ‘heterosexual-looking’? Ugh…yes, let’s continue stereotypes….gaaaaa….

  • Thought the actress, kate, was straight;)
She was great as Shane but she is an actress and nneds to diversify her roles

  • So, maybe it’s just me, but what makes her look heterosexual? That her hair is less spiky/messy? That her clothes are less colorful?
I always did like Shane’s clothes.
But back to the point. The other girls on the L word had what I guess this author would call a “heterosexual” look.
Again, not sure. Just an observation.

  • Hi Rhea/Dylan/Tiffany. Apologies for the ‘heterosexual’ remark - I meant it as a contrast to Shane from the L Word’s look, which I think we can agree is more likely to set gaydars a-beeping. It was a lazy comparison.

As you point out, just because the character played by Kate on Three Rivers wears lipliner and goes easy on the hair wax does not have any bearing on her sexuality…

  • She looks so different but I guess that’s only because I only seen her acting in the l-word :) x

  • But gay or ’straight’ looking ( Nice apology there Milly ; )
she’s still HOT! is she not?

  • She is, very. I’ll be the first to admit that I liked Shane’s style better though.

    Tiffany ∼ August 13th, 2009 1:41 am
  • I guess for me the difference is that Shane is extremely hot, while this other woman is just pretty enough.

  • Yeah Rhea…what you said! Crimey, Moennig is an actor man. It’s comments like Shaw’s that make it seem so right that the character Shane just becomes a part of Moennig’s past. For her to take a step backwards and even consider a role in an L Word movie would just open the door for continued creepy stereotypes like this one. Wow, was this seemingly offensive.
