The L Word to have spin-off show
July 23rd, 2008
Season 6 might be the end of The L Word, but, producers Showtime have revealed that there will be a spin-off show starring one of The L Word characters.
The L Word creator/executive producer Ilene Chaiken is creating the spinoff, which will shoot after The L Word wraps production on its final season later this year.
Series 6 of The L Word is due to end with an open-ended story line that will continue into the spin-off. The spin-off series will initially be shown online, but could also appear as a regular TV show if it proves popular.
Showtime president of entertainment Robert Greenblatt said that the spin-off character’s actress has not yet been told about the plans. Pressed for more details, he said only: “We’re still forming it. I’m sure I have a million e-mails already from loyal viewers about it, but we’re still in the process of figuring it out.”
So who will the new show be centred around? Dana from Mombian thinks it will be Alice:
“My money’s on Leisha Hailey. Her character Alice is a consistent scene stealer, and she brings a comedic touch that could help define the new series. Besides, her character founded the social network Our Chart, which series creator Ilene Chaiken transformed into the real online Our Chart. I think there’s strong incentive for Chaiken to keep that part of the story active in all the media she can. It’s just good marketing.”

I don’t see it being Alice, if for no other reason than Hailey has a new band now (Uh Huh Her) that is releasing their new album in August…I imagine that she’s going to want to tour and whatnot with them. Perhaps she could do both….

Soph ∼ July 27th, 2008 10:24 pmI think it should be Shane. She’s very interesting, and we didn’t get to really know her completely. I mean all we really know about her is that she is afraid of relationships, which leads to her sleeping around. But who is Shane really? I think a spin off with Shane as the star woul answer that question.
Alize ∼ July 30th, 2008 12:57 amIt’s sad that they are ending The L Word, I just love that show! I’ve been watching since season 1, and I feel like I know evryone personally. I’m going to miss seeing Angelica grow up!
Alize ∼ July 30th, 2008 1:00 amI don’t think they should end the show or at least not end its publicity the L word was not only an enjoyable 1hour once a week it’s really the only show aimed directly at GLBT people. I only started watching it though season 3 when I finally had the balls to say I was gay and so had to backtrack through previous episodes. The L words tells young people that its okay to be gay and out there. That its (though I hate this word) ‘normal’.
Lydia ∼ August 8th, 2008 3:22 pmAre you guys still thinking about doing a spin-off of this??? If so i think that they should advertise it so peopke can find out because it’s hard being the person who seems to know everything when you can’t answer questions about tv shows that seem to apply to you….
